Dear families,
I am delighted to inform you that an experienced leader, Mrs Maree Duggan from Riverside Primary School, will be appointed as Principal for Term 3. Maree has been Assistant Principal at Riverside Primary for many years and has experience in a Principal role whilst at Punchbowl Primary. Maree is looking forward to leading EPS and getting to know all students and families. Maree will be visiting on Monday 1st July and will have the opportunity to meet staff, students and some families. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in providing the best outcomes for our students at EPS. I am looking forward to returning to my AST role and working alongside Mrs Maree Duggan and our leadership team to continue to ensure every student at EPS is known, safe, well and learning.

Our skipping and fundraising program is designed to turn your students into Heart Heroes. Caity said that “When kids sign up for Jump Rope for Heart, they become Heart Heroes – everyday superheroes who are leading the way in the fight against heart disease"
The SLC are very excited to announce that their regular fundraiser, Milkshake Monday, will return Week 1 Term 3.
$2.50 each, please bring your own named cup. Choose from the flavours of chocolate, lime, vanilla, caramel, strawberry that are listed on the Qrk app or posted as available on Facebook reminder each week. Orders can be made online via Qkr app or cash on Monday morning.
HYDRO SCIENCE
The 4,5,6 class explored the idea of renewable and non renewable with Sue from Hydro Tasmania. Renewable energy resources don’t get used up and are found with solar, wind and water. Non renewable energy uses up resources and produce waste like with nuclear and coal. We then had the challenge of only using 5 straws, a plate and a plastic water turbine to create a freestanding model that we tested under a tap. Check out our excellent teamwork!
The 3_4 class conducted experiments with model turbines changing 3 variable to work out the most efficient production of electricity. We varied the size of the hole in the bottle, amount of water and height of the bottle in the models Sue bought in for us. Then we explored the properties of magnets and made circuits with materials and our bodies – we even made a whole class circuit!
All our P-2 students used a magnet display to see the development of electricity over time and the ways we use it every day. We then talked about the eels in Trevallyn Dam and how they changed the wall of the dam to allow them to survive.
GRADE 1-2 - NAIDOC WEEK
In Grade 1/2 we have worked together to create a class poster for NAIDOC week, which is coming up in the holidays. We have also created these boomerangs, using some symbols that are sometimes used in Aboriginal art.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a personal challenge – not a competition. What’s your best reading tally? Can you beat it? Get ready to start reading and recording your books on 17th June!
If you figure out what you love to read, reading will be easier – so try reading different things – fiction, non-fiction – blogs, comics, poetry, lyrics, essays, magazines, newspapers… it all counts in the PRC.
This is a challenge for all Tasmanian students. It doesn’t matter what your reading level is, everyone can take part.
Reading is a skill we need for life. All the reading you do in this challenge will help you at school and at home.
