Dear families,
Chilli FM School of the Year
We did it!!! Teamwork makes the dream work! What an exciting and fun time we have had campaigning to win the ten thousand dollars and celebrating with Chilli FM when they surprised us at school yesterday! I am so thankful to everyone that helped and supported us by gaining donations, making and buying chilli paraphernalia, organising and carrying out all the fun events and voting every day!!! Not only have we won money, but there have also been many positive spin offs including strengthening our partnerships with our amazing community, improving our student leadership council’s public speaking skills and their confidence to lead and host people and events. It has been wonderful to have many of our parents offer support in many ways and see students trying new things over the 8 Days of Chilli! Seeing the excitement from students and appreciation from some of our lovely parents was a highlight yesterday! I am so proud of our school community and super grateful to be a part of it!
We will start working on gaining quotes for new early-childhood play equipment as well as asking students for suggestions to be included in the design. Students that frequent the play equipment love to climb high, use the monkey bars, spin on the poles and use the slide, so these aspects will certainly be included. I wonder if we could incorporate a chilli somehow?!\
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the businesses that Mrs Sandra Becker approached to make our 8 Days of Chilli happen! They all very generously provided us with something chilli themed. All the foods and condiments were delicious. We’ll work on sending out thank you letters over the next couple of weeks.

Staffing update
Our Term 3 acting Principal position is currently under review by a panel. We hope to have official notice of who has been appointed before the end of this term. Just to clarify, Ms Jennifer Gray is unfortunately on sick leave and medically unable to be at work at this time. We think of her often and hope that she is beginning to recover. The remainder of our leadership will remain stable and available to support your child to be known, safe, well and learning throughout the year; alongside our principal.
Mrs Marcella Glachan is recovering well at home. Staff that have visited her have said that she beginning to move around and practice walking with her new hip and looking brighter every day. Overall students are coping well with the changes to what is usually a highly predictable and structured routine in 3-4.
Mr Rob Moore is taking planned Long Service Leave from Monday 24th June returning on the Monday 5th August. We have secured two experienced and capable teachers to cover this time in two blocks for the 456 class. Mrs Lauren Shepherd (she was here with us today whilst Mr Moore was at Professional Learning again) will teach 456 this term for Week 9 and 10. Mrs Karen Higgins will teach 456 in Term 3 for Week 1 and 2. We know that changes in teachers means changes in routines which can be tricky however we have high expectations of our students and therefore expect respect, integrity and responsibility to be maintained throughout this time. Students must be courageous and choose what is right and choose kindness!
It is with great disappointment that we must farewell Miss Sarah Bovill at the end of the term. Miss Bovill is an amazing highly motivated and skilled teacher who we are so thankful to have had teaching P-1 since last year. We wish her well in her new appointment at Youngtown Primary School. We are looking forward to welcoming back one of our lovely permanent teachers from maternity leave; Mrs Tarrin Kemp. Mrs Kemp will be working Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on P-1. We are excited to welcome a teacher known to many of our students in her previous TA role; Miss Ebony Barnes. She will be working Monday and Tuesday in Term 3. I will be Ebony’s mentor and working closely with her on the P-1 as she is a new educator working on a Limited Authority to Teach whilst she is completing her Bachelor of Education. There will be many opportunities for transition over the next few weeks.
DECYP Values Mural update
Kream has created a first draft for a design for our new mural based on student's suggestions. Students have some constructive feedback for Kream including ideas for what they would change, remove or add. As well as where the names of the values could go. We hope to have a final draft shortly, so that the painting can get underway before the end of term.
Staff have been doing further work around how the new DECYP values were developed, what the values mean to them and in their work at Evandale Primary School and in the wider community. Students and parents and carers will have the opportunity to add to this work in due course.
Assembly Week 9
On Monday 24th June at 2:00pm the SLC will be hosting our last assembly of the term. We look forward to acknowledging and congratulating the efforts of our students in a variety of ways. We can’t wait to share the many exciting and positives things happening in our school! Staff will endeavour to inform you of your child’s merit or PURR award on the Friday before assembly. Some awards are chosen or drawn on the day or at the assembly. Come along to thank and wish Miss Bovill well too!

Parents and friends' association update
Massive thanks to those in the association that helped plan and organise the disco. It was a very successful night. We all had so much fun! Students loved the glow sticks, food and dancing!
Look out for other events and fundraising opportunities that you might like to help the team with. They are an amazing bunch of parents that will kindly welcome your friendship and support. See the office if you would like to get in contact with someone on the P&F.
Kind regards,
Bella Mitchell
ACTING PRINCIPAL
PREP-1
In Prep/1 we have been learning about the past and how things have changed. Following on from our excursion, we have learnt about how butter was made. We placed some cream in a glass jar and shook it a lot!
Once we had made our butter and buttermilk, we used them to make some delicious pikelets!
KINDER - NAIDOC WEEK
In celebration for NAIDOC beginning Sunday 7th until 14th July, our kinders created art pieces using symbols, colours and patterns that are of importance to the Aboriginal culture.
Our goal was to celebrate stories that are passed down to ancestors and the incredible colours that are used through drawings. These are called dream time stories and we have loved listening to different stories and making good connections.
Here are our drawings and inquiry station in our classroom which have helped us to build connections to the world around us.

If you figure out what you love to read, reading will be easier – so try reading different things – fiction, non-fiction – blogs, comics, poetry, lyrics, essays, magazines, newspapers… it all counts in the PRC.
This is a challenge for all Tasmanian students. It doesn’t matter what your reading level is, everyone can take part.
Reading is a skill we need for life. All the reading you do in this challenge will help you at school and at home.
We would like to support your children and by providing access to our new fresh and innovative approach to private tutoring.
