Dear families,
Chilli FM School of the Year
As you know the Chilli 90.1 FM School of the Year competition to win $10,000 is a focus for us right now! This money would have a huge impact on our ability to put our plans in place to design and order new play equipment for our early childhood playground this year. Children love to climb, swing, spin and play on the current equipment every day, but it is getting in desperate need of replacing due to paint peeling, rubber perishing, metal rusting and breaking and the constant need for repairs and alteration to keep it safe for our students. Our SLC are always kindly choosing to put their fundraising efforts to this cause too, every little bit counts! If you have any ideas to support our fundraising efforts, we are always keen to hear about them or you can talk to the Parents and Friends Association. In the meantime, please vote for us and if you’re available tomorrow please welcome the Chilli FM team to Evandale prior to their arrival at school at 10:00am on 31/5/24.

Long weekend and Moderation Day update
Next Friday, after our disco, it is a state-wide student free day so that staff can collaborate with teachers from other schools to ensure consistency of Australian Curriculum ratings based on learning evidence. Our mid-year reports will be sent home on Friday June 7th (Week 8). This will be followed by two weeks of opportunities to have parent-teacher-child conversations about your child’s progress and next steps in learning. It is also a public holiday on Monday 10th June, so have a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
DECYP values Mural
Kream from KreamArt visited our students last week. His real name is James, but his art name is Kream, as it has been his nickname since he was at school. He popped in and introduced himself to our “Legends” in classes and a group of representatives from each class went with Kream to discuss the process he undertakes to create his artwork. He spoke to the children about the murals that he has created and some that he is currently working on. Kream was impressed with the creativity and ideas that students shared. He was encouraging them to think about local flora and fauna and special features or ideas relevant to the Evandale area. Kream said that the design process of his murals takes the most time and it would take him between one and two weeks to complete our mural. All students have had an opportunity to share their ideas for the mural and Kream will take them away and come up with a design that incorporates most ideas and is cohesive and works well in the space. We are looking forward to the external weatherboard wall along the ramp walkway (heading towards the 3-4 classroom/ toilet wall) being brightened up and making people feel positive and enthusiastic throughout their day, as well as eliciting conversation to support oral language, vocabulary development and a love of the creative arts.
Assembly Week 6
On Monday 3rd June at 2:00pm, P-1 Bovill will be hosting assembly. The prep-one students usually draw a crowd so come early for a good seat! We look forward to acknowledging and congratulating the efforts of our students in a variety of ways. We can’t wait to share the many exciting and positives things happening in our school! Staff will endeavour to inform you if your child is receiving a merit or PURR award on the Friday before assembly. Some awards are chosen or drawn on the day or at the assembly.

At the end of fun run 2 students were at the end greeting the students, teachers and parents with party poppers. When it was the end of the day we found out which house had won the Cross Country. This year Barcley had 445 points and Logan had 657 points which means Logan won.
It was a great day and we thank everyone who helped make it run so smoothly
By Charlotte and Darci.
On the 22nd of May we had the cross country, and it was fun, but I had to run last because I’m in the grade 6 race and we had to run 2.2km and the 4s and 5s ran 1.5km
The 3s had 1km and the 1s and 2s has 500m and the kinder and preps had to run 400m.
At lunch time we had sausages and the cross country started at 11:30am and ended at 2:30pm.
The 2s ran first then the 1s then the kinder people then the preps and then the 3s after lunch then the 4s then the 5s then 6s and after the 6s ran we had a fun run.
And after all the races we had the presentation to see who won the cross country and on 437 we had Barclay and on 659 we had logan so after all the races logan won the whole cross country.
And at the very end David, Billy and I had to pack up the cones.
We would like to thank all the staff and families who came to help out with the cross country.

SCIENCE with Ms Harlow
Grade 1-2 Lohrey have been exploring natural and man -made materials through science and have created a carrying vessel. Thank you to families that have provided some materials from home and Bec for lending another pair of hands to our work. Students connected their ideas to the materials they selected then reflected on the purpose and uses of their vessel.
NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME
On Wednesday 22nd of May, we joined in National Simultaneous Storytime. This is a time where we all read the same book across the country. The story this year was Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. The story is about:
This lyrical story is about the journey of a bowerbird on his quest for lots of stuff that are all types of 'blue' but something is missing. The bird made a bower out of twigs and sticks and all blue bits and peices. After he did that, a female green bowerbird came along and they snuggled, hugged and flew and when they came down, they sat in the bower together. After all, the birds realised that blue things aren't everything but friendship is.
By Seb Y.
The bowerbird has a big journey on his quest for all things "blue". He feels like he's missing something in his bower while he is looking for blue. When he comes home he finds another bird in the bower. The bowerbird realised that the other bird was the thing missing in his life. The bower walls are painted with a mixture of charcoal and saliva. The walls are black. We all had a fun time in the hall and learnt a lot. We also thought that one of the messages in the story was that you could have all the things in the world but what mattered most was frienship and love.

National Simultaneous Storytime Poetry
Something borrowed,
An ancient emerald stone.
Something blue,
A big Logan shirt.
Something borrowed,
A brilliant blue and silver skirt.
Something blue,
A navy blue teddy bear.
In a sky wide and full of blue,
I will watch movies and eat cookies with you.

Something borrowed,
A soft teddy bear.
Something blue,
A shiny new ring.
Something borrowed,
A long pretty dress.
Something blue,
Gorgeous blue violets.
In a sky so bright and clear,
I am so happy that you are here.
